The 38 letters of correspondence between Einstein and Caratheodory
The 38 letters of correspondence between Einstein and Caratheodory, during the period 1916-1930, are all exhibited in the Caratheodory Museum in Komotini, which is now housed in the Tsanakleio Hall. In an informative video which was released online by the Caratheodory’s Friends Association, on behalf of the Museum, we learn some basic historical facts about the letters and the relationship between the two scientists.
‘‘Einstein begins the formulation of the general theory of relativity. In the summer of 1915 he is in Göttingen, where the great Greek mathematician Constantin Caratheodory works as a teacher. Einstein encounters difficulties in proving his ideas. He begins a cycle of contacts and communications with leading mathematicians, including the renowned Caratheodory.’’
